Central and state governments provide beneficial financial assistance to cancer patients for their well-being. As cancer treatment is tiresome and needs a lot of funds that may not cater by the people under below poverty line or middle class category people

Following are the schemes provided by the government authorities to meet the financial demand of cancer patients:

Health Minister’s Cancer patient fund (HMCPF)
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare gives this scheme, Health Minister’s Cancer Patient Fund (HMCPF) , to the patients below the poverty line. This scheme is under Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi. Regional cancer centers are under this scheme so patients can avail services.

The Health Minister’s Discretionary Grants (HMDG)
This scheme runs under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare gives up to a max Rs. 50,000 to poor patients whose annual family income is below Rs. 1.25.000. The patients can use this scheme where free medical facilities are not present in government hospitals

The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS)
This scheme is applied for the retired central government employees and their dependents. It offers cancer treatment coverage from any hospital, apart from the CGHS hospitals

National Health Protection Scheme
The National Health Protection Scheme offers up to 5 lakh rupees per family per year. This amount can be used for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation
This scheme is under the Ayushman Bharat Initiative

The Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund
This scheme is generally intended for natural disaster victims and also provide partial coverage for cancer treatment, and other treatments such as heart surgeries, kidney transplantation and other treatments

State Illness Assistance Fund
Every state and union territories have to set up illness assistance fund which covers up to Rs. 1 Lakh for cancer treatment within the state

The Chief Minister’s Relief Fund
This scheme offers financial assistance to the poor for cancer treatment by the respective state governments.
