Ayurveda, an Indian system of traditional therapies utilising herbs, yoga, panchakarma and various traditional formulations such as ‘medhya rasayanas’ that enhance attention span, cognition and intellect of the children with cancer.

Ayurveda improves behaviour, mental ability and perception through a natural driven process. Ayurvedic classics explained that ‘Dhee’, ‘Dhrit’i, and ‘smriti’ deals with emotional aspects of children. Aacharya ‘Kashyapa’ described ‘Lehana Kalpana’ will play a major role in dealing with emotional aspects.

‘Medhya rasayanas’ and ‘Medhya yogas’ improve intelligence and memory of the childrens. And also it increases the efficacy of ‘manovaha srotas’. Dandelion root (Taraxacum off), burdock (Arctium lappa), vervain (verbena off) and rosemary are the ayurvedic herbs that deal with anger, irritability or depression in children.

Emotional stress can increase the body’s use of vital nutrients that lead to further deficiencies. Nourishing nervine and adaptogen herbs such as vervain, rose, wild oats (Avena sativa), gotu cola (Hydrocotyl asiatica) and skullcap (Scutellaria laterifolia) supports stressed condition of childrens.

Ayurvedic experts always believed that lack of physical touch and expressions of affection from parents will show stress in children. Sufficient ‘quality time’ has to be provided to the children and can contribute to a reduced emotional stress in children. The changes that happen in the life of children will almost inevitably give experience that can be difficult for them.

Chamomile, lime flower (Tilia europea), sandalwood (Santalum alba), coriander, shatavari, (Asparagus racemosus) tulsi (Ocimum sanctum) rose, bringaraj, (Eclipta alba) skullcap and licorice used regularly for a significant difference in children with tense and anxious emotions.

Nourishing herbs such as ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), bala (Sida cordifolia), wild oats, gotu cola and shatavari can be beneficial for restless conditionin children.

Chamomile, catnip, cowslip, hops and limeflowers are the mild sedative herbs that can be given to the children for better sleep. Essential oils of ylang ylang, tulsi, sandalwood, lemon balm, rosemary, lavender and chamomile can be used for massages during baths, body massages and inhalations. These massages are beneficial for comforting restless, anxious or tense conditions of children.
