Stress and anxiety during cancer treatment results in low energy levels, disturbed sleep, and feelings of exhaustion. Sleepless nights and exhaustion not only negatively affect your health but also cause dark circles (due to the accumulation of toxins), wrinkles, acne, and pimples which can lower your self-confidence.
Stress hinders the process of expulsion of toxins in the liver leading to psoriasis. Stress management techniques include relaxation by yoga, meditation, abhyanga (ayurvedic body massage), Shirodhara, imagery, Pranayama (deep breathing), and self-hypnosis.
Ayurvedic perception defines anxiety as an imbalance in the ‘Vata dosha’. ‘Vata’ is the principle of “air”. It is light, dry, and mobile. If an imbalance of ‘Vata’ is happening then an imbalance occurs in mind such as overabundance of lightness or movement—erratic thoughts, worries, obsession, and confusion.
Vata imbalance is linked with a hyper-excitable nervous system and trouble sleeping. If anybody heard someone say they feel “ungrounded,” that’s the best description of Vata imbalance. So, when our Vata is disturbed we feel ungrounded which means we are disconnected from the earth.
To treat anxiety/Vata imbalance, we have to stabilise our energy by calming the nervous system, relaxing the mind, releasing obsessive thoughts, connecting to our body and to the earth, and finally we have to surrender with the flow of the Universe.
Diet for stress relief:
Drinking a glass of vegetable juice without salt or sugar in the early morning. Add fresh ginger juice to it. This helps to cleanse the body and release toxins.
Consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Moderate use of deep-fried foods, fast foods and excessive sweets
Be consumed with light and nourishing foods like Yavagu (porridge), Khichdi, idli, etc which can be digested easily.
Stay away from cold foodstuffs like ice creams, cold drinks, etc.
Employing routine daily activities such as yoga, meditation, pranayama, spending time with nature, gardening, and good time management in goshala also relieve stress and anxiety during cancer treatment
