What Is Prostate Cancer

Diagnosis And Screening

Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) Test: Measures the level of PSA in the blood, with higher levels suggesting a higher risk of prostate cancer. Digital Rectal Exam (DRE): The doctor physically examines the prostate gland through the rectal wall to check for abnormalities.

Causes And Risk Factors




Age: The risk increases with age, particularly after 50. Family history: Having a father or brother with prostate cancer more than doubles your risk. Race: Prostate cancer is more common in Black men than men of other races. It is also known to be more aggressive or advanced in Black men. Obesity: Obese men diagnosed with prostate cancer might be more likely to have advanced disease that’s more difficult to treat.
